Proposed Admissions Arrangements 2021-22

In accordance with the Schools Admissions Code, we have now published our proposed 2021/22 admission arrangements.

Should you wish to make any comments or if you have any questions, please email: admin@greatwakering.essex.sch.uk by Friday 25th January 2019.

Full information about the procedures for applying for a place for your child at Great Wakering Primary Academy can be found in the Primary Education in Essex booklet which is available from the local authority during the Autumn term. This includes information about all the local schools, how to make an application and how to appeal if you are not successful. All parents who are seeking a place at our Academies, must apply to the Council in which they reside. This is done by completing the relevant Application Form available online. Applications are made online from November to January. Parents may apply for up to three schools in preference order. The application form must be returned to the relevant Local Authority before the January deadline. Every eligible Essex resident, as far as practicable, will be offered a single Essex school place by March/April. Exact dates will be published each year. This statement is our admissions policy and supersedes any previous statements issued. This statement has been drafted in consultation with our Trustees and other stakeholders in line with the Statutory School Admissions Code 2014.

2.Great Wakering Primary Academy Policy

In line with the School Admission’s Code Section 2.16, children are entitled to a full-time place in school in the September following their fourth birthday. Parents can defer the date their child is admitted to the school until later in the school year but not beyond the point at which they reach compulsory school age and not beyond the beginning of the final term of the school year for which is was made. Where parents wish, children may attend part-time until later in the school year but not beyond the point at which they reach compulsory school age. Any parents wishing to defer the start date or requesting part-time arrangements should contact the school as early as possible to discuss.

3.Admission procedure

There is no guarantee of a place for children living in the priority admission area.
In the event of oversubscription places will be allocated using the following criteria in the order given:

1. Looked After Children
2. Children living in the priority admission area with a sibling attending the school

3. Other children living in the priority admission area
4. Children living outside the priority admission area with a sibling attending the school

5. Other applications

In the event of oversubscription within any of the above criteria, priority will be determined by straight line distance from home to school, those living closest being given the highest priority.

Exceptional medical circumstances (supported by medical evidence) may override the above (other than Looked After Children).

4.Arrangements for parents to visit the school

Annual Open Days are held for parents of the next year’s intake children during the Autumn Term. Parents will have the opportunity for a guided tour of the school with members of the senior staff. You will have the opportunity to talk to staff informally and ask any questions you may have.

Additional arrangements can be made to visit the school by appointment with the Headteacher, who will be pleased to see parents, show them the school, provide further information and answer questions.

5.When will my child start school?

If allocated a place at Great Wakering Primary you will be offered a full time place from the September following your child’s 4th birthday. We ensure that our EYFS provision is carefully adapted to meet the needs of all our children including the youngest.

Parents do still have the right to request part time provision until their child reaches compulsory school age which is the term of their 5th birthday If you would like to do this please contact the Headteacher to discuss individual arrangements.

Admissions Procedure 2019 - 2020

If your child was born during the period 1st September 2014 to 31st August 2015, you can apply for your child to attend a primary or infant school.

From November 2018 you can apply online or by paper - please do not do both.

The closing date for applications is 15th January 2019.

Your child will be entitled to start school from the September of the academic year 2019/20.

It is the responsibility of parents to make an application for their child's first school place.  It is not necessary to wait to receive an application form or a letter  before you apply.

Please access the Essex Schools Admissions web page through this link click to find out more about the admissions procedure.

Admissions to Great Wakering Primary

We believe it is really important for the school to develop a very close relationship with parents/carers before children enter school.   There is a meeting for parents/carers organised before their children begin when there is an opportunity to meet the Head, Deputy and the Foundation Stage teachers.   This is the time when we share some of our principles and practices with new parents and there is an opportunity to ask questions, followed by a walk around the school.  Our official admission arrangements approved by the LEA are as follows: All reception aged children can now start school from September regardless of birthday.   As a school we will ensure appropriate provision is in place to support the youngest children.

For children who join us from other schools and have not followed the induction process, we ask that parents contact the class teacher after the child has been in school for about a week in order to see how things are going and to see that the child is settled in school.

Should you and your child be joining us after the reception year, then I will only be too pleased to talk to you and your child during a school day and will take you on a tour of the school in order for you to see children and staff at work.
