National Governors' Association (NGA) Skills Audit

We undertake a skills audit every year in order to identify our training needs, assess the impact of previous training and to support the application process when recruiting new governors.

Improving School Performance: A Guide for School Governors

In collaboration with the National Governors Association, the National Audit Office has updated its guide for school governors. It is intended to help both new and experienced primary and secondary school governors, as well as school leaders, identify and tackle the issues important to their schools’ organisation and performance.

Succession Planning Audit

A succession planning (diversity) audit tool for Governors from the National College for Teaching and Leadership

This audit tool is designed to support school governors in:

  • raising levels of awareness around diversity and equality in relation to succession planning, and the recruitment, development and retention of all staff.
  • understanding the importance of ensuring that the school workforce is fit for purpose and reflects the diverse nature of the environments and communities the children in our schools come from, and
  • carrying out their strategic function through ensuring school leadership teams (SLTs) implement effective strategy, policy, practice and planning in order to achieve diversity and equality in the school and centre workforce.
