Year 2 - Otter Class and Squirrel Class

During Spring Term One, Year Two's theme is China.

As dancers we will be recreating dragon and lion dances. To perform dances using simple movement patterns.

As Artists we will create Willow patterned plates. We will learn to use a range of materials creatively to design and make products and to use drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination.

As Geographers we will understand similarities and differences through studying the human and physical geography of a small area of the United Kingdom, and a small area in a contrasting non-European country (China).

As Historians we will be looking at the Great Wall of China and compare China then and now and looking at Chinese traditions and legends.

As Scientists we will be Chinese kite making- looking at properties of the materials to enable it to fly. We will find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching

As Writers we will be writing our own Chinese raps focussing on rhythm and rhyme. We will also be innovating our own version of The Willow Legend with a focus on developing the characters.

Beyond the classroom we will have a Chinese focus day dressing up / food tasting


In English we will be learning how to:

Add suffixes to root words

Write raps focussing on rhythm and rhyme

Develop character description and write a legend

Develop fluency and vocabulary in reading

In Maths we will be learning how to:

Choose and use effective methods for multiplication and division

Word problems

Chinese Focus Day- 14th February- wear red (or Chinese related outfit)
